Starting from Cortina d’Ampezzo, the tour begins with a brief stop at the Castel de Zanna, an ancient historical residence located in the heart of the town. Construction of the castle began in 1694 but was halted in 1696; it remained unfinished and was partially damaged in 1809 by invading French troops.From there, we ascend to Passo Valparola, home to the Forte Tre Sassi (also known as Forte Intra i Sasc), a significant World War I fortification. Built by the Austro-Hungarian army between 1897 and 1901, the fort was designed to repel potential advances from the Italian Royal Army. Visitors can explore the war museum inside (entrance fee applies) or freely wander through the external trenches.We then proceed through Passo Falzarego to the evocative Castello di Andraz, a medieval fortress nestled in the Dolomite landscape. After the visit, we return and ascend to the Rifugio Scoiattoli, where during the break, guests can enjoy lunch and visit the Cinque Torri trenches, which still narrate the history of mountain warfare. After this stop, rich in history and spectacular views, the tour concludes with a return to Cortina.
